Nusa Penida is an archipelago located in Klungkung Regency, Bali. Administratively, Nusa Penida is located in one sub-district, namely Nusa Penida Sub-district. Nusa Penida is famous as one of the tourist destinations in Bali.

 

1. Geographical Conditions of Nusa Penida

The area of ​​Nusa Penida is around 210 square kilometers or 2/3 of the area of ​​mainland Klungkung.

The geographical location of Nusa Penida is 115 degrees 27′ 47.6″ East Longitude – 115 degrees 37′ 41.8″ East Longitude.

Nusa Penida consists of three inhabited islands, namely Nusa Penida Island, Lembongan Island, and Ceningan Island. Nusa Penida Sub-district consists of 16 Official Villages and 48 Traditional Villages. The names of the official villages are: Batununggul Village, Batumadeg, Batukandik, Bungamekar, Jungutbatu, Klumpu, Kutampi, Kutampi Kaler, Lembongan, Ped, Sakti, Pejukutan, Sekartaji, Suana, Tanglad, and Toyapakeh Village.

Nusa Penida is bordered by both the ocean and land. The boundaries of Nusa Penida are:

  • Northern boundary: Badung Strait
  • Western boundary: Nusa Ceningan
  • Eastern boundary: Lombok Strait
  • Southern boundary: Indian Ocean

 

2. Nusa Penida Tourism

Nusa Penida is famous for its underwater beauty and exotic natural beauty.

The coral reefs in the Nusa Penida area are fringing reefs with around 250+ species. The area of ​​coral reefs in the waters around Nusa Penida is approximately 1,419 hectares. Nusa Penida has a coastline of around 77.5 kilometers, dominated by cliffs reaching 56.9 kilometers spread across the eastern, southern, and western parts of the island. The rest of Nusa Penida, 20.6 kilometers or 26.6 percent, is a white sandy sloping beach located in the northern part of the island. Nusa Penida is also a spiritual tourism destination specifically for Hindus throughout the archipelago.

Places commonly used for spiritual tourism trips include: Goa Giri Putri Temple, Batu Medau Temple, Puncak Mundi Temple, and Penataran Ped Temple.

Meanwhile, famous tourist attractions in the Nusa Penida area include: Kelingking Beach, Broken Beach, Angel Billabong, Atuh Beach, Diamond Beach, Tree House, Crystal Bay, Devil Tears’s, Yellow Bridge, Mangrove tourism, and so on.

3. How to Get to Nusa Penida

There are several places that can be done to cross to the Nusa Penida Islands. The crossing places to Nusa Penida are Sanur and Kusamba, near Padang Bai. The crossing from Sanur takes about 30 minutes, while the trip from Kusamba will take about 15 minutes. There are several choices of destination ports in Nusa Penida, namely Banjar Nyuh and Sampalan.
